Dollar and Treasury Yields Pressure Gold in Early Trading

Qatar News Agency reported an early Tuesday pullback in gold as a firmer dollar and elevated U.S. Treasury yields outweighed some support from reduced expectations for an October Federal Reserve rate increase. Silver, platinum and palladium also declined in that snapshot.

For precious-metals owners, the report highlights the competing effects of borrowing costs, currency movements and policy expectations. Its prices describe the early session rather than the current market; the RPMEX charts above provide the latest available feed observations.

Central Banks Add 39 Tonnes of Gold as Reserve Buying Continues

The World Gold Council’s October 6 update reports net central-bank gold purchases of 39 tonnes in August, bringing reported buying for the year to 170 tonnes. China led the month with 20 tonnes, while Poland and Uzbekistan each added 8 tonnes.

The Council links the continued participation of established buyers to longer-term reserve objectives. The figures offer a view of official-sector demand beyond daily price moves, but cover reported activity through August rather than current buying. Purchases and sales both occur within the total, and reserve demand alone does not determine gold’s near-term direction.

Gold’s September Decline Masks Continued ETF Buying

The World Gold Council’s October 5 report highlights an unusual divergence: dollar-denominated gold fell more than 8% in September while global gold ETFs added over 70 tonnes. Meanwhile, COMEX managed-money positions contracted by the equivalent of 84 tonnes, pointing to different responses among investors rather than a uniform retreat from gold.

For precious-metals owners, the contrast helps explain why declining spot prices can coexist with ongoing investment demand. The report also notes that weaker U.S. employment data and steady PCE inflation tempered expectations for near-term rate increases, even as higher bond yields and a firmer dollar remained part of the market backdrop.

Pension Funds Look to Gold for Diversification and Resilience

A new World Gold Council study examines how pension funds in the Netherlands, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia use gold within broader portfolios. Their reasons include diversification, inflation risk and resilience during market stress, rather than simply betting on a higher gold price.

The cases also highlight meaningful differences in implementation: some funds hold physical gold, while others obtain exposure through futures. For precious-metals owners, the research offers context for gold’s strategic role while underscoring that direct ownership and financial exposure carry different structures and risks. The study presents examples, not a universal allocation recommendation.

Nothing Has Really Changed—Except the Price
