Description
The Mint Director Series refers to a collection of coins or numismatic items that are often associated with signatures from former U.S. Mint Directors, such as Edmund C. Moy and David J. Ryder. These coins and related memorabilia are highly sought after by collectors, especially when they are hand-signed and certified with a professional grading service such as NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation).
- Edmund C. Moy served as the 38th Director of the U.S. Mint from 2006 to 2011. Moy’s signature on coins or certificates of authenticity, particularly on limited-edition issues or commemorative coin sets, adds significant value. Items personally signed by him may include special releases of silver, gold, and platinum coins, as well as certain series or designs produced during his tenure.
- David J. Ryder, the 39th Director of the U.S. Mint, held the position from 2018 to 2021. Similar to Moy, coins and other items with his signature are of great interest to collectors, especially when tied to key minting events or series, such as the release of new designs or commemorative coins. Ryder’s hand-signed items are typically issued in limited runs, further increasing their rarity and appeal.
When these signed items are certified by NGC (or other reputable grading services), they provide an additional layer of authenticity and quality assurance. NGC certification ensures that the item has been carefully evaluated for its condition, and it is often encapsulated in a protective holder, making it more attractive to collectors and investors alike.
The obverse (heads) of this design features a high-relief likeness of “Winged Liberty” from the “Mercury Dime” obverse designed by world-renowned sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. In keeping with the original coin design, inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “2024,” and Weinman’s distinct initials as an artist mark.
The reverse (tails) design features a high-relief version of the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal reverse, also by Weinman, which includes an eagle and a branch. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” “$25,” “1 OZ. Pd” (the chemical symbol for palladium), “.9995 FINE,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
