1855-O Liberty Eagle NGC AU58

A Flashy O-mint $10 Lib

Only 18,000 eagles were minted in New Orleans throughout 1855, as gold coin production shifted to the new San Francisco Mint, which had opened the previous year. Apparently, very few were saved as this issue is rarely seen in higher grades. The NGC census stands at just 14 with none higher. This particular example offers flashy, highly lustrous surfaces and a pleasing overall appearance. Listed at $21,200 in the CDN CPG and the NGC price guide and $22,500 in Trends.

1839 Liberty Eagle NGC AU55

Rare Two-Year Type

This is the “Large Letters Head of 38” type, which is a distinct two-year type, which shows a more ornate portrait of Liberty on the obverse. The first issue of this two-year type – the 1838 -is far too rare in AU condition for most type collecting pursuits, as only 80 to 100 examples of that date are known. However, the 1839 (1839/8) Type of 1838 is a more comfortable acquisition in this high of a grade. About Uncirculated coins are still scarce, though, and collectors will have limited opportunities to acquire high-end examples. This one is more lustrous and flashier in hand. Listed at $12,100 in the CDN CPG and $10,500 in the NGC price guide.

1852 Humbert $10 NGC MS61

Rare Mint State Territorial Gold Piece

Most survivors are well circulated, and true uncirculated examples are rare. In fact, the NGC population is a mere two with one higher. Listed in MS60 in both the CDN CPG and NGC price guide at $24,200.

1907 $10 Indian, No Motto PCGS MS 65

First year of issue for the popular St. Gaudens $10 Indian design. A super lustrous, well struck example, sure to elicit strong collector or dealer interest. This 1907 type with No Periods is fairly common in low grade, but robust demand exists for high end specimens such as this one.

From an original mintage of 239,406, there are only 62 graded finer by PCGS and NGC combined.

Ideal for a type set of Gem Quality U.S. gold, and it is offered here at:

Rare Mint State 1799 Large Stars Draped Bust Eagle NGC MS61

The Draped Bust Eagles eagles are a special case, the shortest denomination and the largest early U.S. gold, made only from 1795 through 1804 (one variety was struck in 1834-35), although no 1802-dated examples were produced. Like the quarter eagles, they were struck in relatively small quantities. A date set of early eagles consists of only nine coins, although a variety set — not for the faint of heart — would include 33 die marriages, some extremely rare. This one is lighter and brighter than it appears in our images. Listed at $31,500 in the CDN CPG and $37,500 in the NGC price guide. Unlisted in Trends in this grade but they do list it at $32,500 in MS60.

Offered at $28,000

Ultra Rare, Stunning 1884 Liberty Eagle NGC PR66 Ultra Cameo

Only 45 proof Liberty eagles were struck in 1884, the lowest production total for any gold denomination that year. Thirty pieces were delivered for inclusion in the proof sets on January 19, with another 15 coins delivered at intervals throughout the year. The proof sets were almost all broken up in the early-mid 20th century, due to pressure from date collectors seeking an example of the double eagle, which was a proof-only issue. PCGS CoinFacts estimates the surviving population of the proof eagle at 16-20 examples in all grades. This is a spectacular looking example with extraordinary eye appeal. Unpriced in both the NGC and PCGS price guides in this grade and designation. It is tied with one other for highest graded by NGC, while PCGS hasn’t graded a Deep Cameo higher than PR65.

Offered at $121,000
