Highly Pleasing Scarcity – 1861 Liberty Double Eagle PCGS MS64

The 1861 Liberty double eagle is one of the most popular type coins among No Motto issues, struck to the extent of more than 2.9 million coins. Prior to the discovery of the  S.S. Central America and its hold of thousands of 1857-S and 1856-S double eagles, the 1861 was recognized as the most plentiful Type One issue in high grade. Nonetheless, near-Gem pieces such as this one, are conditionally scarce, and finer examples are rare.

Contrary to how the coin appears in pour images, it’s uniform in color and of the lighter yellow-gold color that shows. The PCGS population is 13 with 8 graded higher.

Listed at $44,400 in the CDN CPG and $50,000 in the PCGS price guide.

Offered at $44,800

Flashy, Retail-Friendly 1919-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar NGC MS64

While not quite as rare in high grades as its Denver Mint counterpart, the 1919-S remains a popular and challenging issue in Uncirculated condition. That is especially true at the MS64 grade level, where the issue becomes genuinely scarce. This particular example is bright and color-free, with strong eye-appeal. The NGC population is 48 with 32 graded higher. Listed at $13,800 in the CDN CPG and $13,000 in the NGC price guide.

Offered at $13,450

1876-S Liberty Double Eagle NGC MS64

Rare, Last Year of Type

The 1876-S double eagle had a mintage exceeding 1.5 million coins, but this does not necessarily translate into high-grade availability. Mint State coins are only plentiful through the MS62 level, after which the certified population drops off sharply. In MS64, the ’76-S is a major condition rarity and anything finer is almost unobtainable. The NGC is only 11 with 5 higher. This particular example offers a pleasing overall appearance.

Offered at $32,625 delivered

1862 Liberty Quarter Eagle NGC MS64

Rare, Choice Unc. Civil War Issue

Although the 1862 quarter eagle has a mintage that tops 98,000 coins — one of the higher production totals of the period — Mint State examples are still rare in all grades. Most such pieces are heavily bag-marked, and relatively few grade higher than MS62. The finest graded are one PCGS 64+ and one NGC MS64+. The NGC population is just 3 with 1 higher. In hand, this example is more lustrous and less reddish-gold in hue than seen in our images.
