Immensely Popular 1889-CC Morgan Dollar NGC AU58

The Carson City Mint was used as an assay and storage facility during the 1886-1888 time period. The Mint was scheduled to resume coinage operations in 1889, but extensive repairs were needed and key personnel had to be hired before the re-opening could be accomplished. As a result, no coins were struck until October, and only 350,000 Morgan dollars were produced before year’s end. In addition to the low mintage, many examples of the 1889-CC that were held in government storage were later melted, further reducing the supply of collectible specimens.

Rare 1870-CC Seated Liberty Half Dollar NGC AU50

This 1870-CC in About Uncirculated is a rare coin in uncommonly desirable condition. Just eight examples of the date are certified in Uncirculated grades between the two major grading services, and About Uncirculated examples are very rare in their own right. Among Seated half collectors, the 1870-CC is ranks near the top of the most challenging issues for the entire series. Competition is intense for problem-free, high-grade examples. The NGC population is only 6 with 7 graded higher.

Listed at $26,400 in the CDN CPG and $30,000 in the NGC price guide.

Offered at $23,625

1853 G50C Arms of California BG-435 NGC MS66

BG-435 is one of the most important and best-known California small denomination gold varieties. It was the only variety to appear on the back of the Jay Roe auction catalog, and the only variety to have both sides shown on the front of the catalog. BG-435 is the sole Arms of California variety, and is one of the few varieties with a side that imitates the eagle, shield, and ribbon motif from the Assay Office slugs. This is a very scarce item in any condition and Gems are outright rare! This is the only example graded MS66 by NGC, with none higher. It exhibits extremely well preserved, semi-PL surfaces. Unlisted in the NGC price guide but listed at $20,000 in the PCGS price guide.

Sparkling 1852-O Liberty Double Eagle NGC AU58

The 1852-O Liberty double eagle claims a substantial mintage of 190,000 pieces, but the issue circulated heavily in the regional economy at the time of issue and few examples were saved by contemporary collectors. As a result, the 1852-O is readily available in lower circulated grades, but it becomes very scarce at the AU58 level, and Mint State coins are rare. The PCGS population is 97 with 28 graded higher. This offering exhibits strong luster, that sparkles under light and contributes to this coin’s excellent eye-appeal.

Listed at $15,800 in the CDN CPG and $16,000 the NGC price guide.

Offered at $14,300 delivered.

1889-CC Morgan Dollar NGC AU58

The 1889-CC is the scarcest of the Carson City Morgans and one of the two biggest key dates in the series overall, trailing only the 1893-S in overall scarcity among circulation strikes. The mintage of 350,000 pieces was accomplished during the final quarter of the year, after the Carson City Mint reopened following a four-year hiatus in production during the first Grover Cleveland Administration. President Benjamin Harrison allowed the Nevada branch mint to reopen, being sympathetic to silver mining interests in the West.

Offered at $22,500 delivered.
