1909-O Indian Half Eagle NGC AU58

Nearly Mint State $5 Indian Rarity

The Indian Head design quarter eagles, half eagles, and eagles were, with a single exception, minted at Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The one exception, of course, is the 1909 Indian half eagle coined at New Orleans. Total production for the issue was just 34,200 coins. Additionally, the issue appears to be the object of heavy collector demand and this is an ideal grade for collector consideration.

1881 Morgan Dollar NGC MS67

Tied for Highest Graded

Contrary to how this coin appears in our images, it’s colorful, vibrant and very attractive. The availability of the 1881 Morgan dollar steadily declines in succeeding grades finer than MS63, but it remains at least marginally available through MS66. Not so in MS67; at the Superb Gem level, the 1881 Morgan is extremely rare. The NGC population is just 3 with none higher.

1906 Liberty Quarter Eagle NGC MS68

Tied for Highest Graded

David Akers offered a concise, two-sentence comment about the 1906 quarter eagle in his 1975 reference when he simply wrote, “A common date. Generally available in uncirculated condition or proof.” The statement holds true today, but with a disclaimer: In the highest grades such as this, the 1906 issue is distinctly rare. And probably needless to say, the surfaces are exquisitely preserved. The present example is tied with 2 others for the highest graded by NGC.

1915-S Pan Pac $50 (Round) NGC MS65+

Large Round

The Panama-Pacific Exposition was authorized to sell up to 1,500 examples each of both the Round and Octagonal versions of the Pan-Pac fifties, and the Mint struck 1510 examples of the Round version, including 10 examples for the Assay Commission. Unfortunately, the high cost of the coins ($100 per coin) discouraged all but the most dedicated collectors, and only 483 specimens of the Round design were sold. The remaining 1,017 coins were melted after the close of the exposition. These rare gold commemoratives are avidly sought-after in today’s market. If you’ve never held one of these massive and extremely impressive coins, you owe it to yourself to do so. In hand, this coin’s color is more yellow/less orange than seen in our images.

1859 Liberty Eagle NGC MS60

Flashy, Glowing Mint State

This date saw a relatively small mintage of 16,013 pieces. Few examples were saved by contemporary collectors, as collecting high denomination gold coins was too expensive for the average collector in the 19th century. The coins circulated widely in the channels of commerce, suffering considerable attrition over the years, and the majority of survivors are in Extremely Fine and About Uncirculated grades today. This particular example boasts semi-prooflike surfaces and a wonderful overall appearance, which can’t be captured in our images. The NGC population is just 3 with 8 higher.
