U.S. Gold provides the same benefits as modern bullion as it is highly liquid, portable, and private.

U.S. Gold affords more profit potential than traditional bullion.

Under current federal law, gold can be confiscated by the federal government in times of national crisis. U.S. Gold is defined as collectibles and as such, rare coins do not fall within the provisions permitting confiscation.

1908-S Saint Gaudens Double Eagle NGC MS62

Lowest-Mintage With Motto Saint

The limited mintage amounts to only 22,000 coins, making the 1908-S the lowest-mintage With Motto Saint-Gaudens twenty. The San Francisco Mint did not solve all the production problems striking the new design, and double eagle production was suspended during the year. The coins would not “stack,” meaning a pile of ten or twenty coins was of different height than those of Liberty Head double eagles, confusing bank employees. High-grade coins are scarce-to-rare in accordance with the low mintage.

The NGC population is 51 with (coincidentally) 51 graded higher.

Listed at $18,600 in the CDN CPG and $21,500 in the NGC price guide.

Offered at $18,565

1928 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle PCGS MS67

The mintage of 8.8 million double eagles in 1928 was the highest production figure for any coin of the denomination from the beginning in 1850. The next closest was the 1904 Liberty double eagle with a coinage of slightly more than 6 million coins. Unsurprisingly, the 1928 is one of the common dates in the Saint-Gaudens series, although the PCGS population is less than 40% of the 1927, and less than 20% the total for 1924 double eagles. Enough of these have been graded that any collector can aspire to own an example as fine as MS66. Locating one at this grade level is a different story, however.

The PCGS population is 127 with 13 graded higher.

Listed at $20,000 in the PCGS price guide.

Offered at $15,250

Just 2 Graded Higher – 1913 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle

A relatively modest business-strike mintage of 168,838 Saint-Gaudens double eagles was accomplished at the Philadelphia Mint in 1913. The coins were produced in nine deliveries, spaced throughout the year. Most of the coins were sent to European and Latin American destinations, and Roger W. Burdette estimates about 5,000 examples have been repatriated from overseas sources in recent times. Most examples seen are in lower Mint State grades, with the expected number of bagmarks from rough storage and transport. The 1913 Saint-Gaudens double eagle is a rare issue at the MS65 grade level, and finer coins are virtually unobtainable.

The NGC population is 22 with 2 graded higher.

Offered at $25,850 (Bank Wire, ACH, Delivered)

Gem 1912 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle PCGS MS65

The 1912 Saint-Gaudens double eagle claims a smallish mintage of 149,750 coins. Its certified population totals in MS62 and MS63 are relatively pedestrian — about a couple thousand each — but the issue becomes more challenging in MS64, scarce in MS65, and rare in MS66 or better. What also stands out about the 1912 is its status as the only Saint issue for the year. There are no branch mint coins to supplement the population of Philadelphia representatives. The one offered here displays clean surfaces and a delightful, satiny appearance.

The PCGS population is 42 with 18 graded higher – none finer than MS66.

Listed at $31,200 in the CDN CPG and $35,000 in the PCGS price guide.

Offered at $32,480

Gem Saint Rarity – 1924-D Saint Gaudens Double Eagle PCGS MS65

The last decade of Saint-Gaudens double eagle production can be classified broadly as having resulted in three distinct types of issues. The first are mass-produced and readily available Philadelphia issues struck from 1924 through 1928. Those five dates accounts for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of high-grade Saint-Gaudens twenty dollar gold pieces on the secondary market. The second group includes the scarce, heavily melted branch mint issues manufactured during that same span, including the 1924-D, 1924-S, 1925-D, 1925-S, 1926-D, 1926-S, 1927-D, and 1927-S. All of those issues can prove challenging, some more so than others (like the 1927-D), and none are nearly as accessible as their generally substantial mintages suggest. The third group combines both Philadelphia and branch mint issues. It includes the five final “collectible” Saint-Gaudens twenties struck from 1929 to 1932 plus the essentially unobtainable 1933.
The 1924-D ranks among the most accessible of those branch mint melt rarities. Roger Burdette notes that all but 13,229 of the 3 million coins struck were melted as part of the Gold Act of 1933, and 217 additional coins were melted for assay purposes. Burdette explains that a number of coins were shipped to Europe for use in international payments and writes: “A number of small hoards of the 1924-D were uncovered in Europe in the 1950s, 1960s, and even in the 1970s.” About 1,200 examples are believed to survive, nearly all of which are found in grades up to and including MS64 but rarely higher. The PCGS population is 10 with 6 graded higher.

Listed at $168,000 in the CDN CPG and $175,000 in the PCGS price guide.

Offered at $161,000

1910-D Saint Gaudens Double Eagle NGC MS67

1 of Just 2 So-Graded

The Denver Mint coined a substantial number of double eagles in its fifth year of operation, 429,000 according to Mint records, and surviving specimens are plentiful in all grades through MS65 and somewhat available at the MS66 level. However, finer pieces are rare. There are no reports of hoards in the literature, although repatriated European and South American exports undoubtedly account for most Mint State pieces known today. The NGC population is just 2 with none higher.
