Blast White1904-S Barber Half NGC MS65

Pop 1. Two Finer at NGC. Blast white. A meager mintage of 553,038 Barber Half Dollars was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1904. Most of the mintage circulated heavily in the regional economy and few high-quality examples were saved by contemporary collectors. As a result, the 1904-S is one of the most challenging issues in the Barber Half Dollar series, especially in high grade. This spectacular Gem exhibits sharply detailed design elements. The virtually pristine brilliant surfaces are lustrous and appealing. Nice Price Guide comp, too!

A Rare 55 (O) in 55 – 1855-O Liberty Double Eagle NGC AU55

This issue is one of the rarest New Orleans twenties. After the first four emissions of double eagles from the New Orleans Mint (in 1850, 1851, 1852, and 1853), there were considerably fewer coins made in 1854, producing a major rarity in the Liberty double eagle series. Only 70 to 80 pieces are believed to be extant today in all grades, with most falling in the Very Fine to Extremely Fine level of preservation (Douglas Winter,  Gold Coins of the New Orleans Mint, 1839–1909). Just a handful of Uncirculated survivors have been certified. The NGC population is 12 with 10 graded higher. In hand, this particular example is lighter in color, as well as considerably more lustrous and eye-appealing than seen in our images.

Listed at $74,400 in the CDN CPG and $72,500 in the NGC price guide.

1799/8 Draped Bust Dollar NGC MS65

A Pre-1800 Gem Dollar

The 1799/8 Draped Bust dollars are popular because of their dramatic over dates. This is the “13 Stars Reverse” variety, as opposed to the other for this date – the “15 Stars Reverse”. The one offered here exhibits lighter color and more luster than seen in our unflattering images. Additionally, the surfaces are refreshingly clean, even considering the lofty grade. This is the only MS65 graded by NGC with a single (MS66) example graded higher.

1876-S Liberty Double Eagle NGC MS64

Rare, Last Year of Type

The 1876-S double eagle had a mintage exceeding 1.5 million coins, but this does not necessarily translate into high-grade availability. Mint State coins are only plentiful through the MS62 level, after which the certified population drops off sharply. In MS64, the ’76-S is a major condition rarity and anything finer is almost unobtainable. The NGC is only 11 with 5 higher. This particular example offers a pleasing overall appearance.

Offered at $32,625 delivered

1910-D Saint Gaudens Double Eagle NGC MS67

1 of Just 2 So-Graded

The Denver Mint coined a substantial number of double eagles in its fifth year of operation, 429,000 according to Mint records, and surviving specimens are plentiful in all grades through MS65 and somewhat available at the MS66 level. However, finer pieces are rare. There are no reports of hoards in the literature, although repatriated European and South American exports undoubtedly account for most Mint State pieces known today. The NGC population is just 2 with none higher.
